What is Massage?

Massage Overview

Massage is defined as the systematic manipulation of the soft tissue of the body for therapeutic results, to enhance health and healing, consisting primarily of manual (hands-on) techniques such as applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and moving muscles and body tissues, including tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy helps alleviate the discomfort associated with every day and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions.

Definitions

Therefore, massage therapy is the systematic application of one’s hands on another’s muscle to mechanically change and manoeuvre or guide a body or muscle “position” or tension and/or fascia, and/or fibrous tissues, and in some cases, tendons in order to provide physiological and psychological benefits by manual work on these areas.
